Biography

After graduating from NYU with a degree in film production, Jayil has worked as a director of commercials, music videos, and short films in both the US and South Korea. In the last couple of years, his works have screened in 100+ film festivals and garnered 50+ awards around the world. His last short film Georgia (2020) was nominated for a Korean Oscar, has been featured in The New Yorker’s Screening Room Video Series, and ranked 6th on Screen Rant’s “10 Best Short Films Ever Made According to Letterboxd. ” For his latest project, Jayil delved into the world of K-pop, directing a critically acclaimed Disney+ original docuseries on the K-pop sensation NCT 127, uniquely incorporating theater, animation, and performance art. Currently, he is working with an American production company, developing a narrative feature set for production in 2025.
